In addition to working on Unbabel.com, or the desktop version of Unbabel, you’re also able to work on many tasks via our mobile app. It’s called Unbabel for translators, and it’s available for both Android and iOS devices. The following article will guide you through the app’s requirements, how to install it, and how to get started with the editor mobile interface. We will also cover the differences between desktop and mobile versions.
In order to fully experience the App, it requires at least the following specs:
- Android 5.0 and newer
- iPhone iOS 12.0 or better
- iPad iPadOS 12.0 or better
- iPod touch iOS 12.0 or better
How do I install Unbabel for translators?
The app is available on Google Play for Android users, and on the App Store for iOS users. The app is available everywhere that iOS and Android are.
iOS
- Click on the download/install icon on the left-hand side in the App Store.
- Once the installation is complete, click on ‘Open’.
- When you open the app, you’ll be prompted to go through a quick tutorial. We recommend checking it out, but if you’re confident you know what you’re doing, you can skip this.
- Sign in at the next screen. If you don't have an account yet, you'll need to do this on the desktop version. You can check out our materials here.
If you’d like to create an account, be aware that it’s highly likely your language pair may not be open for new registrations - we’d recommend checking out our information on getting started. - Once you are signed in, you will see four tabs on the bottom navigation bar: Paid, Training, Cash out & Account.
Android
- Click on the download/install icon on the Google Play Store.
- Once the installation is complete, click on ‘Open’,
- When you open the app, you’ll be prompted to go through a quick tutorial. We recommend checking it out, but if you’re confident you know what you’re doing, you can skip this.
- The next step is to either log in or to create an account. Please note that if your language pair is closed the ‘create an account’ button will not be visible.
- You will have access to tasks on the navigation bar located on top of your screen.
- Clicking on the menu bar gives you access to Account, Settings and Support. The option to cash out is located under ‘Account’.
What the app can do - and what it can’t
The app is a very powerful tool, but it’s designed for working on short translations on the go and does not have all the functionality of the desktop version.
Some of the limitations you should be aware of are:
- Evaluations won’t appear in the app. You’ll need to find these on your desktop version (and it’s very important that you keep up to date with these).
- You won’t see your task history. This is also only available on desktop.
- While paid and training tasks are available on mobile, other task types, for example reviews and segments, are not available.
- Not all tasks will be visible on the app. The word limit on the app varies, but no task over 300 words will be available there. If you’re not seeing tasks on the app, try the desktop - it’s perfectly possible that there are longer tasks available there.
Basic troubleshooting steps
Unfortunately, not everything works perfectly all the time. It’s worth being aware of these basic steps you should follow if you’re experiencing issues on the app.
- You should check that your app is operating on the newest version by seeing if it needs updating, either on the App store or on Google Play. If it needs updating, please update it before proceeding to the next step.
- If you have the most recent version of the app and you’re still experiencing issues, make sure that you are connected to a reliable network and that your device's signal is strong. Full WiFi bars or mobile data coverage alone is not always enough to guarantee a good connection, because local networks can slow down and get overloaded.
- If your app is up to date and your internet connection is strong but your issue persists, please try restarting the app. If this doesn’t work, restart your phone.
- If all the above haven’t resolved your issue, please contact our support team. In order for our developers to find the cause, please send us a step by step description of the issue, which OS you are using (iOs or Android) and screenshots/links if possible.
