You can request extra services along with a project. Services are extra steps we perform before delivery that don't consist of translation specifically, but that may prove indispensable in producing a valid output for your use case.
Services is a feature only available to a specific number of accounts. If you're not seeing option to select Services during the project creation flow, it may not be a bug, but rather a feature not enabled for your Portal. Talk to your Account Manager for more information.
Services add to the total cost of a project. When services are selected, project cost estimation won't be automatic, and instead you will receive a quote via email with the total estimated cost for the project (translation+services).
Types of services
The type of services available depend on the format of the file to which they will apply (note that a service only applies to a single file/order. If you wish to have them applied to multiple, you need to select it for each one individually as described below).
Desktop Publishing
Desktop Publishing (DTP) consists in ensuring that a document which includes visual elements such as images, elaborate backgrounds, themes, etc. Usually these are files that serve a presentation purpose, like a pamphlet, instructions manual, or a poster, which still need to meet graphical requirements regardless of the translation output. Our dedicated team will make sure the intended content is properly translated while still respecting the original layout or any other requirement in the output file.
DTP is available for non-binary files (with the exception of spreadsheet files).
File Engineering
This service consists of manipulating the file, be it at a stage prior to translation, or a subsequent one. Translating some files may require a process that selectively marks content for translation while excluding other, or a delivery to be performed in a non-standard way, which our pipeline would not be able to process without intervention.
File Engineering is available for binary files only, plus spreadsheets.
Transcreation
Transcreation goes beyond translation. It is the process of adapting the original source content to the target language's audience in a manner where tone and intention are preserved and culturally accommodated. As a consequence, the source meaning might evade literal translation but be better suited for the audience. A transcreation expert is responsible for delivering the final translation.
Client Review
With Client Review we include an extra step where a stakeholder on the customer's end reviews and is able to perform editions to the translated output before the translation is considered closed and the translated file produced. This ensures that the final version will meet every standard.
Certificate of Accuracy
A Certificate of Accuracy (CoA) is an official, signed statement issued by Unbabel, which attests that, to the best of Unbabel’s knowledge and belief, a translation is a true and correct copy of an original document and can be used for external purposes according to Unbabel’s Terms and Conditions. The certificate is delivered as an additional separate file to the translation output.
Subtitling
This service consists of creating subtitles out of a media file and translating them. The output of an order with this service requested can be just the simple srt (subtitles) file, or the media file with subtitles burnt in.
Requesting services
Services are requested in the fourth step of project creation, File settings. Each file will display a section which, when expanded, will display the available services.
Each service is accompanied of a slider bar which you can toggle to request that service for the corresponding file (highlighted in the left panel). Toggling a service on unlocks further options. Some of them (like the option to translate images during DTP) are specific to the service.
Along with the service selection, you can
- add additional information for the Unbabel teams working the request
- these are instructions for the team responsible for guaranteeing the service and are not visible to translators
- add auxiliary files
- these files contain additional information that will help the Unbabel teams and should not contain any content to translate
Each service needs to be toggle for the respective file as highlighted in the left panel, for each individual file you want to request the service for.
After selecting all services, click the Next button to move to project review and lock your project for translation/estimation.
Checking requested services
It is possible to check on a project that is estimating/estimated, in progress, or completed, and confirm whether there were any services requested. The information will appear under the services column in the order list, or under the tab "Settings & Services" in the Order view.
