Smartcheck is an application that checks the grammar, morphology, orthography and style of our translations. By using a large set of rules, Smartcheck flags words or groups of words that may present some kind of issues.
There are two types of notifications:
- Items highlighted in red **mean that a critical error occurs and the editor must correct it before submitting the task;
- Items underlined in green **provide suggestions regarding the use of those units (verbal tense, contractions, etc.), which leads to an improvement in fluency and style.
By clicking on the highlighted word, you’ll see a number of suggestions from Smartcheck. You can accept one of the suggestions (by clicking on it) or just type the correct unit.
If you think that the notification doesn’t actually apply in that context, you can ignore the suggestions by clicking on the “ignore” button.
Glossaries come from Unbabel customers who have brand terms and other linguistic specifications pre-loaded into their account.
These will appear in grey in both source and target text.
To check, just click on the source text, and the original translation will appear.
Please only change glossary terms if necessary (for gender and number issues, for instance).
Translation memories are made up of stored segments (sentences, paragraphs or elements like headlines and titles), which have previously been translated and accepted for customer usage.
They are useful for ensuring consistency across jobs, and mean that customers get translated work much faster over time. The translation memory segments should be respected, they should only be modifyed when strictly necessary.
