Unbabel On-demand is a service that allows you to request a translation for any given text, to any onboarded language pair, directly at the Unbabel Portal, without resorting to any integration or setup process. Just type or upload your content and we'll be ready to go.
Unbabel On-demand is available in the Apps Menu of the Portal on a subscription basis. If you do not have access, but would like to, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager.
You can find a video recording on the basics of requesting an On-demand translation here.
Homepage
On-demand translation requests generate translation orders that you can find and manage in the On-demand Homepage. Start by logging in to the Customer Portal. Next, go to the top right-hand corner of the screen to the Apps Menu and click on Unbabel On-demand to initiate the app.
You’re now on the On-demand homepage. Here you’ll be able to view all your ongoing and completed translation orders, as well as toggle between them.
Clicking any of the orders will let you in the order details page, where you can gather information on their status, translations, and metadata. You can also confirm which user requested the translation and see or download the translated output. By clicking any of the languages you requested the translation to, you'll also be able to see the translation ID for the request. This is the ID you need to share with Unbabel if you wish to report any problem with a translation request.
Accessing and downloading translations
Clicking any order will open the details page, where you'll be able to see all the languages the translation was requested to. In this page, you can immediately choose to download all translations included in the request, if multiple languages were selected. This will originate a zip file containing multiple text files. You can also download translations individually, by clicking the download icon at the end of each entry. If you only need to access the content, you can merely click on the language entry to expand the page and copy the content of the translation directly.
Requesting translations
To initiate a translation order, go to the On-demand homepage and select New Translation in the top right-hand corner of the page.
You will find a new window where you'll be guided through some steps necessary to request the translation. The first step will have you enter the order name (will display in the Home page), the actual content and the text format. Select from Plain Text, html, srt or xliff.
The source text can be supplied in two ways:
- typing/pasting the content directly in the text box
- uploading a file in one of the supported formats: txt, html, xliff, srt
After loading a file, you won’t be able to edit the content in the text box. You can clear the box’s content by removing the selected file. The file format should be auto-detected, but please ensure it is correct so that the quality of the translation is ensured.
Once you're done, click the Next button in the bottom right corner of the screen. If the button is greyed out, you're most likely missing one of the required fields.
In the next step, you'll need to provide more details on the order.
-
- Confirm the source language. Please make sure to select the language you have contracted, otherwise you will form an invalid language combination and the request will fail.
- Choose one or more target languages. Available idioms will match your subscribed languages for On-demand.
- Choose the Translation Profile (brand) you wish to be used for the translation.
In the final step, we will ask you to confirm the order details before you fire the request.
The request is then sent to the Unbabel Community. At this point, translation requests will be processed and follow the Translation Flow according to your specific Translation Profile.
You can review the translation orders and see the status for each request and can click into the individual order to view what was requested. It is also possible to cancel a request at this point.
When the order is ready, you will receive an email notifying you that the order has been completed by the Unbabel Community, and the status on the Portal will update accordingly.
