We have a range of services to help you get your Terminology right for your translations, as well as maintaining your Glossary.
Terminology consolidation
We can consult with you to create a Glossary from scratch, as well as in any initiative to expand & consolidate your existing ones.
How does it work?
We extract bilingual term candidates from an existing Translation Memory using TermFinder, our in-house terminology extraction tool. The number of Term Candidates extracted will be agreed upon with you. This process can also be conducted manually.
We will assess newly exported term candidates against your existing Glossary (if applicable) to detect & flag up potential conflicts and inconsistencies.
On-going Terminology maintenance
Either your language experts or our Lead Terminologists can be given direct access to the Glossary Management Interface in the Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tool component of our Translation Management System (TMS) to:
- review new term candidates proposed during the translation process
- research and introduce relevant metadata for term disambiguation (i.e. context, definition, acronyms, subject matter, etc.)
- manage duplication (i.e. choose the preferred translation and reject the irrelevant one)
- manage approval statuses (approve or reject term candidates)
- correct form of proposed term candidates (i.e. remove irrelevant punctuation marks, change capitalisation, remove pluralisation, etc.)
Real-time Terminology expansion
Glossaries are living documents. Their expansion will be continuous, as we allow new terms to be added in real time, during the translation and feedback implementation process.
Terminology clean-up
Our clients often provide us with a list of terms that may require further review and clean-up to ensure that those terms are fully fit-for-purpose and reflect their specific organisational terminology.
- We carry out an impact analysis based on a consultation of your terms and terminology instructions, and propose the most effective and efficient clean-up strategy.
- Two key roles are appointed; a Head Terminologist (responsible for ensuring that all business-critical source term candidates are identified and stored) and a Target Language Terminologist(s) (tasked to research and document target term candidates, as well as to research and validate new translations). Both roles require subject matter expertise.
- Contributors (translators, In-Country Reviewers, content authors) can directly contribute to a Glossary, by recommending new term candidates.
- The Terminologist(s) will be asked to:
-
review existing terms to ensure they are in line with the company’s direction
-
research and introduce relevant metadata for term disambiguation (i.e. context, definition, acronyms, subject matter, etc.)
-
manage duplication (i.e. choose the preferred translation and reject the irrelevant one)
-
manage approval statuses (approve or reject term candidates)
-
correct form of proposed term candidates (i.e. remove irrelevant punctuation marks, change capitalisation, remove pluralisation, etc.)
- the Terminologist(s) will implement updates in our Terminology Management Tools
- the Terminologist(s) can be provided with an offline terminology export in our standard terminology template in excel format.
