Please note that this article assumes that you have been invited to work on a non-standard LP by a member of Unbabel staff.
At Unbabel, we have quickly expanded our offering to include a number of different language pairs (LPs), many of which pose specific challenges that cannot be addressed within our standard model. We’re calling these our non-standard LPs, and this is an introduction to working with them.
If I’m working with a non-standard LP, what do I need to do to get work?
In a standard LP, there will be a queue of tasks and, broadly speaking, it works in a first-come, first-served system where those who are there quickest get the tasks.
In a non-standard LP, you will be able to see a list of the available tasks, as below, and claim them:
You can claim multiple tasks at the same time and work on them in parallel. Once you’ve claimed a task, it will be yours until the deadline and it will be your responsibility to complete it on time.
How many tasks can I claim?
At this point, there’s not a limit to the number of tasks you can claim at once. This is because in non-standard LPs there may be very few people available to work at any given time.
⚠️ You must use this feature responsibly. While there's no strict limit on the number of tasks you can claim, be mindful of your own capacity and the quality of your work. Overcommitting may impact your ability to deliver high-quality results. Remember, it's better to complete fewer tasks well than to take on too many and compromise on quality.
Note that consistent failure to meet deadlines and/or produce translations of poor quality, especially in cases where too many tasks were taken on, may result in disciplinary action or demotion from the platform.
If I’m working with a non-standard LP, how do I get paid?
Your rates will vary depending on the LP, but your payments are all made in exactly the same way as with other Unbabel LPs, i.e. via the Unbabel dashboard. You can find more information here.
