To keep Unbabel competitive, we need to make sure that every translation we send is of the highest quality. In order to achieve this, evaluations are a necessity to make sure that everyone in our community is meeting our professional standards.
Your completed jobs can be evaluated before or after the default three months displayed on your dashboard. We base this on how much work you’ve delivered within a certain period of time.
For example, if you completed 100 post-editing tasks a week, your performance could be evaluated after two or four weeks. In peak times, if you're working a lot, it could even be less than this. When fewer jobs are delivered, we have a smaller sample to analyse and therefore it may be that the evaluation takes place after three months or longer.
This approach is based on the logic that the amount of work completed in a given period of time is a good indicator of post-editor’s productivity and efficiency, and this depends on the workload of each language pair.
As any linguist will tell you, the level of your non-native languages can fluctuate over time. Your translation quality could therefore be changed by relatively small things - a visit to a country where they speak one of your languages, meeting someone who speaks a different language variety to you, or perhaps reading a section in a grammar book that you’d forgotten about.
That’s why it’s so important to keep our evaluations current and assess our pool of editors as often as we can.
