Introduction
At Unbabel, we’re proud to deliver native-quality translation to our customers within a matter of minutes, using the best of technology and the human touch. Our community is a huge part of that, and what we provide to our customers simply wouldn’t work without our editors.
It’s vital that our editors are submitting work of the highest quality, and to do that we have two sets of evaluations. We evaluate everyone who wants to gain access to the community of editors, then those members who achieve the score necessary for paid task access can expect a round of evaluations every three months or so.
The evaluation journey: humble beginnings
- If you’re new to Unbabel, remember to take a look at our section for new editors!
So, you’ve signed up and you’re ready to get started. That’s great - welcome aboard.
Once you’ve completed the language test and took the interface tour, you’ll be ready to start on the Skill test. You have to complete five training tasks per language pair that you want to work with and once you’re done, the system will send a sample of them off to our evaluators for analysis.
Before completing your training tasks, it’s incredibly important to read through the language guidelines for your languages. Remember that Unbabel isn’t a traditional translation platform, too - so we’d recommend looking at our guide on how to post-edit.
The evaluation journey: new recruit
Now you’ve passed your evaluations and gained access into the Unbabel community, remember that this is just the beginning of your journey. You’ll be evaluated very soon and keeping that rating high means that you’ll improve your hourly rate and get first access to paid tasks.
Your next evaluation will be based on a set of tasks selected at random from the period since your last evaluation, so it’s important to stay consistent in the work that you do.
- Remember that we’re always innovating to improve our processes, so it’s important to keep up to date with us so we can inform you of any changes.
The evaluation journey: the expert
Our best editors relish the opportunity to have their work evaluated by their experts, and take pride in their results and work to improve their mistakes. We believe that it’s important to never stop learning, and that’s why we evaluate our editors as often as is feasible.
So what’s the trick to getting great scores every time? Well, there’s no exact formula, but there’s a lot of steps you can follow. Read up on our guide on how to succeed here and don’t forget to take a look at the language guidelines if you’re not sure about something.
