As part of our mission to source new customers and increase the workload for our clients, we are finding new work within the financial services industry. Due to the sensitive nature of the translations of these clients, it means that people working on their content will require an extra layer of consent and information that is not present in our standard NDA.
This layer of data is required in accordance with the European Union's Regulation on Market Abuse (MAR), which aims to prevent insider trading and market manipulation to maintain fairness and transparency in financial markets within the EU. This isn't just about fairness, though, it's also about ensuring our clients have detailed records of everyone who has access to advance data, in order to protect you, our clients, and Unbabel.
We collect this data via a short form, which will be sent to you by a member of Unbabel staff if you are eligible for these projects. The form asks for some basic data and is a standard practice in this area of translation, but we understand that that not everyone will be willing to share this information.
It's completely up to you whether you feel you would like to accept the terms offered; as with any freelancer work there are conditions that come with each job or client. In terms of your general access to standard work, we will not hold it against you if you decide not to participate in these projects (though in relation to these specific industries it's likely that we will prioritise those translators who are happy to work within the regulations).
