This article explains how to use the right-hand side panel in Polyglot, where you’ll find key resources—like glossary terms and instructions—that support high-quality translations. Understanding this panel will help you work more efficiently and meet client expectations.
The side panel in Polyglot is organized into multiple tabs that provide reference materials and context to support your translation work. Let’s take a closer look at what you can find there.
Information Tab
The Information tab provides key details about the translation task you’re currently working on. Here’s what you’ll find:
Client Instructions:
These are guidelines or notes provided by the client, tailored to the specific project. They may include preferred terminology, formatting rules, or style guidelines.
Check this page for more details about using custom instructions.
Editable Annotations - Glossaries and Named Entity Recognition
Editable annotations are words in the segment that are underlined. These include:
-
Glossary terms (blue underline): Part of the client’s approved vocabulary, these should be used consistently across translations.
-
Named Entity Recognition (NER) terms (gray underline): These highlight specific entities such as names, locations, or dates. Tip: Check the guidelines for any target language–specific rules.
When you click on a segment containing an editable annotation, the client instructions in the side panel are temporarily replaced with details about the selected annotation.
You can return to the instructions at any time by clicking the "Instructions" button at the top of the side panel.
Translation History Tab
The translation history lookup (also known as concordance search) is a powerful tool that allows you to research previous terms submitted by the community, which may help you find the right translation in a specific context. Read more about this feature in our article What is translation history lookup and how do I use it?.
Remember: when you’re done researching, click back to the information section to make sure you have the instructions visible while you work on the editions.
Find and Replace Tab
The Find and Replace tab allows you to quickly search for specific words or phrases within the source or target text of the current task. This feature is especially useful for ensuring consistency across segments, correcting repeated errors, or applying terminology changes efficiently.
