Polyglot gives you full visibility into where each segment comes from, its quality, and why it may be blocked or editable, helping you make more informed decisions while translating or reviewing.
Segment Types
In Polyglot, every segment falls into one of two categories: blocked or unblocked. This distinction determines whether a segment can be edited during a task.
- Blocked segments have a gray background and cannot be edited, though they can still be reported if there's an issue (e.g., incorrect translation). These segments are typically blocked due to Translation Memory (TM) matches or high-quality content.
- Unblocked segments, by contrast, have a white background and are editable.
The decision to block or unblock segments is made by the customer, based on their setup. This approach follows industry-standard practices designed to balance quality, speed, and cost. For example, many customers choose to block TM segments to avoid editing content that has already been translated and reviewed.
The time to complete a task, shown in the top right-hand corner, is based only on the number of unblocked (editable) words. You can also see the breakdown of blocked vs. unblocked words in the top bar, helping you understand what’s expected in each task.
Understanding whether a segment is blocked and why helps users better manage their focus and time during a task.
Blocking Reasons
Segments may be blocked (i.e., not editable) based on their source or quality. A lock icon appears next to blocked segments, and hovering over it reveals the reason.

Pre-translation | Blocked because the customer has provided the translation |
Quality | Blocked due to a high AI-predicted quality score (QE) |
Quality Signals
Segments may include an AI-predicted Quality Estimation (QE) score to help you quickly identify low- or high-quality content. This allows you to focus your effort on the segments that are more likely to require edits.
The quality levels shown in the interface are:
- Very high
- High
- Medium
- Low
- Very low
These levels are represented by a quality icon next to each segment. Hovering over the icon displays a tooltip with the quality label.
In some cases, the quality may be shown as unknown. This can happen when:
- The quality estimation service is temporarily unavailable.
- The segment was edited in a previous step of a multi-step revision, and a new quality score is not available.
Customers can choose to block high-quality segments to help translators focus their time and expertise where it’s most valuable. Lower-quality segments are generally editable and should be prioritized during the task.
Segment Source (Badges)
Each segment in Polyglot includes a badge indicating its source. These badges help you understand whether the content was generated by AI, reused from past projects, or edited by a translator.

Editable TM or High-Quality Segments with HTML Tags
In some tasks, you may notice that some TM or high-quality segments are blocked, while others are still editable, even though they appear to be similar. This is usually due to the presence of HTML tags in the segment.
When a segment contains HTML tags, it may be left unblocked on purpose, even if it’s a 100% TM match or has a high AI-predicted quality score. This allows translators to adjust or reposition tags if needed to ensure correct formatting.
The expectation in these cases is not to fully re-edit the content, but to correct any tag placement issues if they exist. If the tags are already correct, no changes are required.
